CHAMPAGNE is a short film created in the Canadian Film Center’s (CFC) 2010 Short Dramatic Film Program.
CHAMPAGNE was directed by Hans Olsen, co-written by Hans Olsen and Bretten Hannam, executive produced by the CFC, co-produced by Anita K. Sharma and Rayne Zukerman and edited by Aren Hansen. CHAMPAGNE stars singer/songwriter Lara Martin and Bayo Akinfemi (Human Cargo).
Stuck in a routine existence, Clara (Lara Martin) spends her birthday working the night shift at a furniture store. When she learns that James (Bayo Akinfemi), her secret crush, is leaving for another job, she seeks solace in a gift from her mother – a bottle of cheap champagne. As the night wears on, Clara becomes more and more bold. With her heart on the line and her job in danger, she struggles to find a real connection in a world of artificial displays.
CHAMPAGNE premiered at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival and was also selected to screen at the 2011 Newport Beach International Film Festival, the Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival, the 2011 Worldwide Short Film Festival, and the Vladivostok International Film Festival in Russia.
